Judge Day received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in 1974, her Masters of Education in Supervision and Administration from Louisiana State University in 1980, and her Juris Doctor degree from the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1994. Prior to her election to the bench, Judge Day was in private practice at the firm of Myles, Cook & Day. She practiced law for over sixteen years, focusing primarily on family law. Immediately after law school, Judge Day served as a judicial law clerk in the Twentieth Judicial District Court for the Honorable William F. Kline, Jr. and the Honorable Wilson R. Ramshur. 

Currently, Judge Day is involved as a fellow with Louisiana Bar Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and a member of the Wex S. Malone American Inn of Court. Judge Day is also currently serving on the legislative committee on the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Aside from her professional activities, Judge Day is involved in the Zachary Chamber of Commerce, Central Chamber of Commerce, Capital City Republican Women, and the Republican Women of Central. She also is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary, Louisiana, and its mission church, Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Clinton, Louisiana. 

Before going to law school, Judge Day had a career as an educator. She taught English and social studies at Northwestern Middle School in Zachary, Louisiana, and before that, taught fourth grade at Silliman Institute in Clinton, Louisiana. Judge Day was recognized as the Teacher of the Year for Northwestern Middle School and was a finalist for the parish-wide East Baton Rouge Teacher of the Year in 1988-1989.
